This project uses p5.js to produce lace patterns within a 50×50 grid. It references the visual language of filet crochet, a medium that, like code, relies on a binary of “on” and “off” (filled blocks and open mesh). Through cellular automation and a layer of Perlin noise, the system creates black-and-white compositions that resemble traditional handmade structures while introducing variation and unpredictability. The work looks at the exchange of digital systems and manual craft, drawing connections between pixel-based imagery and the logic of grids embedded in historical textile practices.
